Inner Voice

Image
Consider for a moment what thoughts might be going on within my mind in this picture.  As a woman my mind is constantly going in a million different directions and all the while I am listening for that voice within my head to guide me and lead me in the right direction.  Do you listen to your inner voice? That inner voice is so important and can offer us ways out as well as prevent us from making bad decisions to begin with if we simply listen to it.   However, we can also become so fearful of our choices and so set in our ways that we might use that inner voice as a way to never step out of our comfort zone.  It can become a crutch so to speak.  How do you prevent that from happening? For me I pray that God is my sole guide, for He knows that right ways for me to go.  I am human though and will many times go astray, what a comfort to know He will guide me back and welcome me with open arms. Recently I attended a business owners networking luncheon....

Living Independently

"I'm under no obligation to make sense to you." Neil DeGrasse Tyson  Consider those words for a moment. Do you feel the urge to explain yourself and your actions? I used to, but more and more I simply live my life and don't worry about explaining my actions. After all it's my life and my path, not anyone else's. So for me as long as I'm following God I don't care whether I make sense to anyone else.  Many years ago I served on a jury, and found myself repeatedly explaining myself over and over. At one point the jury foreman said, "I just don't understand you". My response, then and still today, was "I'm a woman you'll never understand me".  Once you learn who are you, discover your direction, and are confident in who you are and what you believe, you'll find a sense of freedom in feeling no obligation to explain yourself to others. It's about being secure in your beliefs.  When you reach that place in...

10 Years

A lot can happen in a short period of time, but wow at what can transpire in a decade. So let me take you back for a moment to August 7, 2013.  On that day I had been in a place of depression and heartbreak over the ending of my marriage.  I had moved back to Missouri from Oklahoma and was simply trying to survive emotionally one moment at a time.  August 7th dawned very bright and sunny and my family (my parents, my brother, sister-in-law, and both my nieces) had chosen to make a point of spending that day with me.  You see that was the day my divorce was to be final.  I was going back to being Lisa Freeland.  I know longer even knew who Lisa Freeland was nor did I have any clue what my future held, because all my hopes and dreams had come to a crashing destructive end.  Little did I know that all that destruction was only the beginning to becoming the woman God had created me to be! Since that moment I have had some pretty major setbacks ...

No is a Complete Sentence!

Image
So often we find ourselves feeling the need to explain ourselves. We say no or we say stop and almost immediately we're asked "why?".  So many words, especially question words are received as one word sentences why then do people not understand that "No" and "Stop" are also single word sentences.  When you start setting boundaries you do so by saying no and limiting your available to continue as you've done in the past.  This can be met with confrontation and sometimes people making you feel guilty for not doing what you've always done in the past.  The truth is you are creating a newer, better, even more productive version of yourself and that's not a bad thing, nor does it require an explanation. I personally have experienced situations where the word no or stop is received as a challenge.  It's viewed as "she didn't really mean that, I just need to work harder to persuade her".  That is the farthest thing fr...

Storms

Image
Have you ever considered how the storms of our lives are often very similar to the storms of nature?  They come with winds and rain, sometimes feeling almost evil when they include driving rain, and leave behind damage and debris.   The past couple of weeks I have been going through a very strong personal storm.  There would be small windows of calm and then the storms would start again, and I was getting slammed in every direction.  I found myself fighting to breathe and struggling to stand in the wake of all the storms coming at me.  To say my determination and resolve wavered would be an understatement.  I felt as if I had nothing left to offer, reaching a very low place last Thursday.   Then Friday dawned NEW AND BRIGHT! Still I had a few minor storm come at me, but this time it was different because I remembered where my help comes from and who can calm not only the storms of nature, but my personal storms.   What a...
