Romance Yourself

Image
When was the last time someone showed you some romance?  If you're single like me then it's been awhile.   I enjoy romance, and it doesn't have to be anything elaborate and fancy to feel very romantic.  Having been single so long (9 years), I've learned that if I want some romance I need to be the one giving it to myself.  For me it's a unique aspect to self-care.  You could start by using flavored coffee.  I bought a special cup for my coffee, it isn't fancy but it makes me feel loved when I use it, and I am loved.  I might take myself out to a movie, or get a special meal that I can enjoy.  Each day I look for something that makes me feel loved, even if it's taking time to sing and dance to the radio (yes, I am very good at dancing alone).   The first time I did something that felt romantic for myself was when I bought myself flowers.  I realized if I wanted flowers it was silly for me to wait for someone else to buy the...

Half Full or Half Empty

Image
Do you see the cup half full or half empty? Are you an optimistic person looking for the good in your situation or are you a pessimistic person looking at the negative and expecting everything to go wrong?  At different times in our lives and sometimes at different times within a day we can be both of these people. If we're focusing on the here and now and we're looking to where we see ourselves going, focusing with goals and determination often we're more optimistic, our glass is half full. Then if we're allowing people's judgment and our past mistakes to enter into our thoughts we can easily see ourselves as pessimistic with a glass half empty and usually expecting the next shoe to drop. The trick is don't stay in the half empty mindset long, realize you're there, take stock in your current situation, and then find something positive something that's good right this moment. For me that's often time in nature. When I'm able to surrou...

Other side of the Mountain

Image
In whatever you are doing you'll encounter setbacks and obstacles. Sometimes those setbacks can make you question your journey maybe even question or doubt yourself and your dreams. Remember, you CAN do this, it just might take longer, not because it's impossible but because you're on the other side of the mountain.  We start our climb and we can see the smooth wide path in front of us.  It's so inviting, and we think we're going to get to the top of our mountain so quickly.  After all it's smooth and nothing can stop us.  Then suddenly our path changes and becomes rocky, we are encountering a path with obstacles and drop-offs, sheer cliffs and straight walls to climb.  Do we turn around and go back, give up on what we have been working towards?   If we are determined and willing to continue then taking the path that is rocky and steep will teach you to be sure-footed.  This path will test you, it will take time, it will teach you that...

Breaking Free

Image
To me, this picture represents breaking free.  Look at how that tree was determined to flourish and become exactly what it was created to be, even though there was a giant boulder on top of it, holding it down. Have you ever found yourself in a situation in which you felt controlled or manipulated. Not able to be the person you were meant to be. Oft times we go through something that feels that way, could be a person or a situation holding you back or pinning you down.  I have experienced this and found that I didn't even realize it was happening until I was already pinned down or cut off. I struggled some but I felt trapped.  Sadly this often leads a person to simply give up and just accept what is. However, I want everyone to know you don't have to accept what is, for God created you to be the most amazing person and He will show the way to break free.  When you start the journey to break free, it usually is a slow process, and will require lots of planning...
