Viewpoint


Have you ever stood at the ocean and looked at the vast expanse of nothing but water in awe? Have you ever stood on a mountain top and looked in wonder at what felt like the whole world 🌎 below you? Do you prefer to live in the wide open spaces of the country or are you more at home in the city with people and buildings all around?

We all have our preferences and we tend to create our lives around those preferences.  For instance if you want to live in the city, you'll look for a home as near the city life as possible.

Me, I love the mountains, but the ocean is a part of me.  Given the choice I will always choose the ocean.  If you spend enough time at the ocean you realize that every emotion a person can experience can be witnessed within the calm and turmoil of the waters of the ocean.  I look at that and think, God controls all of this and if He can control the vastness of the ocean then my problems and my emotions are no trouble for God and His great love.  

In turn I much prefer living in the country, but I also enjoy spending time in the city.  The city has activities of culture and the enjoyment of theater and museums as well as concerts and ballet, all of which I greatly enjoy experiencing.  However,  for living I need the calm and quiet of the country.  The peacefulness and the open spaces are wonderful, as well as the sunrises and sunsets which are magnificent in the country sky.  As is the night sky filled to overflowing with stars.  

How amazing it is that we are so blessed in a country where we are able to choose to experience it all or only the aspects we want.  I get to live in the country while enjoying the activities in the city, I can also choose to visit both the mountains and smell the clean fresh mountain air or I can choose the ocean and inhale the glorious salty air.  What a wonderful and glorious world God has given us!

A lot can happen in a short period of time, but wow at what can transpire in a decade. Sticks and Stones

"Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me." Odds are you heard this and probably even said this as a child. It was our way of being tough and standing up for ourselves. However, the truth is words can be more damaging than sticks and stones. Words cut so deeply and the effects last far longer than physical evidence. Sadly, kind words spoken to or about us are easily brushed aside but the negative words, they cut deep, they last, and they rarely miss their mark. When those damaging words are said within a relationship that's very unhealthy. People consider that an abusive relationship only happens when someone becomes violent, but the truth is verbal, psychological, and emotional abuse are just as damaging. Storms

Have you ever considered how the storms of our lives are often very similar to the storms of nature?  They come with winds and rain, sometimes feeling almost evil when they include driving rain, and leave behind damage and debris.   The past couple of weeks I have been going through a very strong personal storm.  There would be small windows of calm and then the storms would start again, and I was getting slammed in every direction.  I found myself fighting to breathe and struggling to stand in the wake of all the storms coming at me.  To say my determination and resolve wavered would be an understatement.  I felt as if I had nothing left to offer, reaching a very low place last Thursday.   Then Friday dawned NEW AND BRIGHT!
