Self-care is a Necessity
Anyone who works with me or hears me speak regarding my business, will hear a great deal about self-care and its importance.
When we continue to give to others and sacrifice our need to recharge we can find ourselves dealing with more and more personal issues. I have been pouring myself into work and building my business as well as giving to clients and family quite extensively. Don't get me wrong, I love my career path and I practice regular self-care on a small scale; such as reading a book, writing, listening to music, enjoying a cup of tea, taking a hot bubble bath, etc. All of these help, they allow me to step away and find a sense of peace. However, when there are situations that constantly suck the life from you and you can't find a sense of peace you need something more!
I started to feel that need for more a few months ago, but I chalked it up to "winter blues". They lessened as spring weather presented itself, but still that nagging exhausted feeling was there. So I started planning a mini-vacation.
I worked through the Friday ahead of Memorial Day, even worked from home on Memorial Day to post my blog, but that was it. Except that one bit of work, I was taking a break. I was semi available through Tuesday, but on Wednesday morning I escaped! A cousin joined me and we spent a few days unplugging and recharging! Other than GPS, a few texts, and taking pictures I didn't even use my phone. It was exhilarating!!!
I came back, refreshed and feeling a new connection with God and a new improved purpose for my life and goals. All levels of self-care are important, but if what you're currently doing isn't filling you up so you can better face life's challenges and the needs of others, consider a complete break for a few days. Even if it's simply to unplug from your electronics.
Prayers for peace and calm for you all!
